SCP Archives - Season 8
Happy February, everyone!
Our show returns on February 27! And with a new season we have new logos, theme songs, and a lot of exciting updates!

Artwork & Aesthetic
First, let's talk about the aesthetic of this season! Valdevia and I went back and forth on a couple of styles, before landing on a grungy 80's photo-copier aesthetic. We really wanted to emulate those old black & white UFO documents you'd see everywhere.
Since our last season was digital, we wanted to return to something tactile. And there's nothing more nostalgic than the smell of printer ink and warm pages on a copier! Valdevia locked in on the texture pretty quickly, but we went through a couple of different logos on our way to the final one. Last season, Val made us our iconic "Archivist" logo and wanted to play with the shape and format of this logo. It had to look good in B&W, and it had to fit into a social crop without cutting off the text.

After a bit of experimentation, we landed on this logo. It's simple and clean but has some added texture to give it that grungy texture we were looking for.
Theme Song
Of course, if our look was something grungy, this meant we needed a theme song that matched. Matt and I went back and forth. I wanted something like El Paso Elsewhere's song Interview 38. Matt suggested something like early NIN, 80's industrial vibe. In their words:
"... a mix of old dry drum machines and SFX for rhythm elements. Crunchy."

With the inspirations locked down, Matt got to work right away. They locked down some words, did a couple of test recordings with our showrunner, Daisy, and then they shared this:
All in all, this season was shaping up quite nicely. But to kick off such a big season, we needed a really good opening episode.
Season 8 Premiere
As I mentioned above, our show returns on February 27, and I'm excited to share that we have an original two-episode premiere written by Kevin Whitlock, our dedicated script editor. The original in question? Well, it's about one of my favorite SCPs, one we haven't been able to cover...
